Endorsements as Printed For 2003 Elections
“Long Island Sportsmen’s
Newspaper Endorses Ginny Fields In The
November 2003 Election For Islip Town Supervisor”.
“Dear Citizens of the Sporting Community,
The Long Island Sportsmen’s Courier newspaper has served the sporting community since 1993. We exist to serve the best interest of the sporting community and make the public aware of the high American values and traditions practiced by sportsmen, sportswomen and their children. In our involvement with the Long Island Community, we have developed sensitivity to the concerns and needs of our readers.
The results of this November’s election will play a huge role in sustaining the rights of gun owners and the rights of all Islip Town residents. If the right candidates are elected, common sense will return to the way we enact our laws. However, this can only happen if you decide to become part of the political system.
This year, The Long Island Sportsmen’s Courier is endorsing Ginny Fields in the November election for the position of Islip Town Supervisor. This will be a very close election and every vote will matter. As a Suffolk County Legislator, Ginny Fields proved she would act as a true representative of the people. Her dedication to protecting the rights of the sporting community stands unsurpassed. If we do not vote in this election, we run the risk of electing a candidate who will not listen to our views. Based on our experience and personal contact with Ms. Fields, we have found her to possess a great respect for individual freedom and to be a person of honor and principle. We also believe that she will stand up for her beliefs and fight for what she knows to be fair and right for all county residents.
Please vote this November!
Sincerely, Tony Giammarino

An interesting candidate and race for 2004 will be Michael
Benjamin Verses Charles Schumer for US Senate.
Based on our personal experience, interviews and statements made Mr.
Benjamin, we are offering him an early endorsement. In spite of the fact that the Republican Party has decided to
drag its feet on fully backing this Candidate, we urge you to support Mr.
Benjamin. We believe you will agree
that he has the potential to win in 2004.
He is bright, well informed, principled and honest. He has a great respect for individual
freedom and will fight for what he believes in.
Tony Giammarino, Publisher LISC
In Michael Benjamin’s own words,
“I know that the firearms you keep to protect yourself and those you love do not threaten the public safety. I understand that the firearms you use to hunt and to enjoy recreational target shooting are not "on the street" and do not cause crime. I know that disarming the law-abiding has never deterred criminals and does nothing to reduce gun violence.
I
affirm that the right to keep and bear arms, as guaranteed by the Second
Amendment, is an individual right -- your individual right.
I
believe the solution to gun violence is not to strip freedom away from
law-abiding citizens, but for our government to vigorously prosecute and punish
violent criminals.
Gun
control is not crime control. Gun control is a cynical, manipulative scare
tactic, sold by politicians who lack the heart to truly lead, preferring
comforting delusions to challenging realities.
In
the United States Senate, I will oppose bills that only pretend to reduce gun
violence. I will oppose legislation calling for ballistic fingerprinting, which
would lead to no more than an enormous waste of taxpayer money. I will support
the bill to end frivolous lawsuits against the firearms industry. I will call
for a review of federal gun control laws, and urge the repeal of those laws
that only burden the law-abiding and waste precious law enforcement resources.
There
are already over 30,000 gun control laws on the books and gun violence is still
a serious problem in America. In the United States Senate, I will aggressively
support genuine crime control through the enactment of laws to impose swift,
certain and severe mandatory sentences for anyone convicted of having or using
a firearm during the commission of a crime.”
