BOAT
SMART IN HEWLETT
Hempstead
Bay Power Squadron will present the BOAT SMART Course at the Hewlett/Woodmere
Middle School on Peninsula Boulevard starting Wednesday, 6 October at 7:30
PM. BOAT SMART, a boating safety course
from the United States Power Squadrons, covers boat terms and types, personal
watercraft, boat handling, required equipment, safety standards, federal, state
& local regulations, aids to navigation, navigation rules, emergencies and
marine radiotelephone. The course is
approved by New York State to fulfill the requirement for formal training to
operate Personal Water Craft (PWC). Youngsters 18 years of age and younger are
welcome in order to fulfill the New York State Boating Education requirements,
but must be accompanied by an adult.
BOAT
SMART will run for five sessions on Wednesday evenings. The course is designed
to be useful for all boaters, from the person operating a personal watercraft
to the skipper of a family cruiser or sailing enthusiast. The course is
approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and
recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard for the National Recreational Boating Safety
Program.
The
instruction is free. The course material costs $30.00. In addition, there is a
registration fee to the school.

Junior High School starting Tuesday, 5 October at 7:45 PM. BOAT SMART, a boating safety course from the

watercraft, boat handling, required equipment, safety standards, federal, state
& local regulations, aids to navigation, navigation rules, emergencies and
marine radiotelephone. The course is
approved by New York State to fulfill the requirement for formal training to
